PAT repeat-work guide
Plan repeat PAT work without defaulting every appliance to a year.
A reminder helps organise a visit; it does not determine the inspection or testing interval. Keep the customer's maintenance arrangements, equipment history and current-visit results clear when planning repeat work.
The interval needs a reason.
HSE states that inspection and testing frequency depends on the equipment and its environment; annual PAT is not a universal legal requirement. Read HSE’s explanation of PAT frequency and its low-risk equipment guidance.
Use the maintenance arrangements agreed with the responsible customer, informed by appropriate competent advice. A software default or a previous due date is not the basis for a safety decision.
Keep planning separate from evidence of completion.
A planned date says when work is being considered or arranged. The inspection or test record says what was actually done. Do not turn a reminder into an issued record or move an original date simply to make the schedule appear current.
Record the current results and review the appropriate sign-off for each visit. Previous appliance details can help identify equipment, but they do not show that today’s work has been completed.
Review the equipment list before the return visit.
- Check the customer contact and site access arrangements.
- Identify equipment that has moved, been replaced or left the site.
- Review the relevant history and any outstanding follow-up information.
- Confirm the intended scope and maintenance arrangements with the customer.
- Keep a clear distinction between previous results and the new visit.
Evaluate the reminder workflow you will actually use.
Review CertifyPAT’s current plan features and try the supported retest planning route. Check where the date appears and how your business will review it. Do not assume that saving a date automatically sends a message to a customer.
The register guide explains equipment identity, while the PDF checklist covers document handover.
Before you choose
Does a retest reminder prove the appliance has been tested?
No. A reminder is a planning aid. The current visit must be carried out and recorded separately.
Will every saved date automatically email the customer?
Do not assume that. Confirm the reminder or export workflow supported by your chosen version and plan.
